Maryland Electrician Exam Pass Rates (Board Data)
Maryland master and journeyperson electrician exam pass rates from State Board of Electricians minutes: monthly results, 9,659 exams since the start and a cumulative pass rate of 28 percent.
About 28 percent of all Maryland electrician exams since the start of the program have ended in a pass. That means more than seven in ten attempts did not.
The State Board of Electricians publishes PSI statistics in its meeting minutes, month by month. This page collects the numbers from the latest minutes.
Monthly samples are small, so single months swing widely. The cumulative figure is the steadier one.

Monthly results
The table shows the month reported in each set of minutes. The board's labels for the months are not always consistent, so we list the meeting.

5Journeyperson: 13 to 33 percent
The journeyperson pass rate swung from 13 percent (39 tested, 5 passed) to 33 percent (36 tested, 12 passed). With only 20 to 40 candidates a month, one or two people change the rate by several points.451

The total tested per month was 66 in the February report and 98 in the June report.35
7October 2025: 19 percent overall
The November 2025 minutes show 44 master candidates with 7 passing (16 percent) and 25 journeyman candidates with 6 passing (24 percent), 13 passes of 69 overall.2
In the July report the printed Passed column for master shows 38, which does not fit the other numbers. The 16 passes and the 30 percent rate shown here fit the cumulative totals, which rose by 21 passes between June and July.51
How to read the numbers
The figures count exams, not people. A candidate who fails and retakes appears more than once, so the pass rate per attempt is lower than the share of people who eventually pass.
The board does not publish pass rates by topic. The exam outline in our guide to the Maryland electrician exam shows where the points are: theory, wiring and protection, and for masters a 30-point calculations section.
Each attempt costs $65 and a retake must wait 30 days after the first failure and 60 days after later ones.67 That makes preparation worth the time. Start a free practice test to find your weak topics first.
